ASC Masters students are invited to apply to participate in the Transatlantic Symposium, an annual event organized by the University of Warsaw (ASC), Humboldt University in Berlin, and Oregon State University at Corvallis.

The theme of the upcoming 15th Transatlantic Symposium is:

Returning to the Nation?

Challenges to Democracy and Supranationality in the 21st Century

Dates: March 25 – April 2, 2017

Location: Rome – Warsaw – Berlin

The Transatlantic Symposium is an annual event whose location changes from year to year, alternating between Europe and the United States of America. Each Symposium consists of a study tour and an international graduate student conference.

The upcoming Transatlantic Symposium will consist of a study tour in Rome (March 25-29) and in Warsaw (March 29-April 1). The graduate conference will be held at the University of Warsaw (March 31). An overnight visit to Berlin to celebrate the Symposium’s 15th anniversary will follow for those interested (April 1-2).

Participants will be MA students in American Studies from UW (ASC), MA students in American Studies from Humboldt University in Berlin, and students from the Masters in Public Policy program at Oregon State University at Corvallis.

Please note that the event is partly sponsored by the ASC but that there will be a co-payment of PLN 500 and incidental expenses to be incurred while traveling.

The ASC will sponsor between 4 and 6 participating MA students, depending on the quality of the submissions.

Selected participants will be expected to meet several times with Prof. Tomasz Basiuk and otherwise prepare for the event. (The first meeting will probably take place on Tuesday, January 24 at 5 o’clock.)

To apply, please email a brief statement of purpose and an abstract of (idea for) a short academic paper (deliverable in 15 minutes) on the theme of this year’s Symposium, as stated above, to by Monday, January 23. Please include your contact information (email, phone number).
