Year of MA graduation: 2009

Current occupation: Editor-in-Chief at EURACTIV.pl, EUROPE’s MEDIALAB Board Member, Lecturer at the University of Warsaw

How was studying at the ASC like?

I studied in Poland, Germany, and the UK. I studied American studies, European studies, philosophy, and English linguistics. ASC was (along with American Studies at Free Berlin University) the best academic experience I have had. Today, I always recommend ASC to young people who are not sure what to study. I say: “ASC is the best” (and I really think so).

And why? Because in sharp contrast to many Polish academic institutions, the ASC is not a fossil stuck in the past. It’s a modern, well-organized faculty where lecturers are engaged in what they teach and in teaching itself. ASC administration is also different than elsewhere – they smile and support students with a smile on their face. Students can choose their studying path, so – if you like literature, then you can go in the literary direction, you can pursue culture, gender studies, law, media, history – whatever you like. And it’s all in English. A great memory!

Has someone at the ASC had a particular impact on you and inspired you in some way?

Professor Marek Wilczyński and professor Agata Bielik-Robson, each in their own way.

Would you choose the program again?

Yes, definitely. But I would take again the American modern art program at FU Berlin’s JFK (which I did during Erasmus+, also thanks to ASC).

American Studies is a window to the world, giving students the chance to touch but also explore various fascinating fields – philosophy, politics, law, literature, film, art, and many others – and then choose their own path without having to give up other interests of their own. Other faculties are more concentrated and do not open up horizons as much. American Studies can be a self-sufficient major for a student, but myself and most of my year were studying something else simultaneously, such as European Studies, International Relations, Sociology or Law.

What do you do professionally at the moment?

I am a chief editor at EURACTIV Poland – media specializing in European and global politics and policy. I am a board member at EUROPE’s MEDIALAB, a European think-and-do tank focusing on promoting innovative solutions in the media. I am also a founder and president at the Global Political Network Foundation, a think tank specializing in the geopolitics of NATO’s Eastern Flank. I am also the Warsaw University lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies (my courses: “50 Shades of Populism in Europe and the World” and “International Political Overview – News Lab”). I am also a recent alumna of the Fulbright, Center for Leadership, and Marie Curie Fellowships.
