How was studying at the ASC like?

My experience in studying at the American Studies Center has been nothing less than rewarding, fascinating, and fun.As a fresher, you get to discover numerous aspects of the US taught to you by experts who are always eager to guide youBesides the academic part, I was delighted to have met such amazing people kind, sincere, and true friends which, to me, sums up the Center’s social environment perfectly.

What did you like most about our Center?

The way in which the department keeps improving the quality of education through student-centered approach and self-evaluations. Also, students are able to explore and pursue their thoughts through the guidance of the instructors, which has been encouraging and rewarding for me. I came to ASC as an Erasmus student and my decision to remain in Poland came as early as the first day of my Erasmus experience. From the first days of living in the city of Warsaw and studying at the ASC, I knew that I would be doing my best to pursue my academic goals under the guidance of the great ASC professors and staff.

Your best memory(ies)?

Working in the Writing Lab. It allowed me to spend more time in the faculty and improve my teaching skills in a less pressing atmosphere.

What did you like the most about the MA program?

Thanks to the variety of the highly interesting courses across the fields, not only was I able to broaden my horizons and search for what interests me academically, I also expanded my knowledge in those areas.

What skills have you gained while studying that you think you would not acquire anywhere else?

Critical thinking and engaging in lengthy discussions with peers and professors.

What do you do professionally at the moment?

I currently teach business, academic, and conversational English at my own language school called “English with Mert.” I also teach undergraduate courses on academic writing and American policing at the University of Warsaw. During BA, I worked as a basketball coach for a year.

Has someone at the ASC had a particular impact on you and inspired you in some way?

Everyone was equally inspiring in one way or another, yet three of my professors, dr. Hab. Paweł Frelik prof. ucz., dr. William Glass, and dr. Matthew Chambers were greatly inspirational both in my academic endeavors, as well as supportive in my journey as an immigrant. I would like to take this opportunity to once again express my gratitude and thanks to them.

Would you choose the program again?

Absolutely, because I would organize my schedule better to write a better thesis.

To whom would you recommend pursuing a degree in American Studies?

To anyone who is interested in the USA in any way.

What advice would you give to a younger self?

Manage your time better. Read more.

What are your future career aspirations?

To be one of the leading scholars in Justice and Comics Studies.

Any other thoughts you would like to share?

Thank you very much for the opportunity. It helped me look back on my time as a student. I am happy to endorse the ASC, which has relocated now to a brand new building!
