It is our pleasure to report that Prof. Paweł Frelik has been elected President of the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts.

Founded in 1982, the IAFA is a scholarly association devoted to the study of the broadly understood fantastic across media and gathering researchers, instructors, critics, writers, and publishers of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Among IAFA’s principal activities is the organization of the annual conference held every March in Florida and the publication of the peer-reviewed Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts. Every year, IAFA also awards the Distinguished Scholarship Award.

Prof. Frelik is the first non-Anglophone president of the IAFA and only second from outside the United States. After his term as President of the Science Fiction Research Association a decade ago, he is also the first scholar ever to lead the two largest scholarly organizations focused on the fantastic. Prof. Frelik will assume the presidency at the end of the 43rd ICFA conference in March 2022.

Congratulations!
